Your results in Value Insight represent overall improvements and do not directly identify the activities’ specific contribution to it. To give a better estimate of the activities' specific impact, an adjustment has been made that reduces the value by a percentage to try to account for the social improvements that would have happened anyway in the absence of the activities. This is known as a 'deadweight adjustment', and is made on the basis of the average deadweight for different categories of activities.
If you have used more advance research methods and feel comfortable that you have identified your activities' true impact, then deadweight can be switched off, letting you apply your own deadweight figures once your results have been exported. If you are interested in the Standard of Evidence necessary to understand the true impact of your activities, get in touch with HACT at support@hact.org.uk.
